June 23 – Gröbenzell to Möckmühl
The journey begins at lunchtime of Monday, June 6. I had dropped Mavic in Munich at the Flixbus to Amsterdam in the morning and then packed the bike lightly, with around 20% less luggage volume than on the last trip. Getting better at choosing what to take.
The first leg from Gröbenzell to Möckmühl was supposed to be 240 km only with Calimoto set to curvy roads avoiding the Autobahn and big cities. It started well with cloudy sky and not too much heat. Within an hour I had to put on my rain gear, and sweat in it for around an hour. In addition, half of Southern Germany seems to be a construction site, many “Umleitungen”, so I arrived at S&G’s place on a very remote farm only at 18:00 after having driven 302 km.

G. Then showed me his farm, we visited the old town of Möckmühl, with the castle of the famous Görtz von Berlichingen, who is said to have created the famous term “Er möge mich am Arsche lecken”.

The walk through the historic town was a bit depressing. Most of the former shops are empty, businesses had moved outside the historic city walls, probably because of little parking space available in the historic town. The ice cream parlor and kebab restaurant, two of the remaining commercial places, were very busy though.
Back at the farm we had a very nice Swabian dinner and exchanged the latest gossips about ATIAMi and IRRI.
