Connecting with the boat

Day 3, learning to know each other

March 21

Yesterday evening the previous owners, Emil and Frederik, who have circumvented the world since 2018 and had made many young people from Denmark experience sailing and diving, docked us at the marine fuel station of Marina Taina in Vaitupa. After the formal handing over of the boat they said good bye to meet some friends and then catch a plain back to Denmark.

This morning we split up to start preparations, some spent the latest amount ever on fuel, 2,500 liters of diesel and 356 liters of gasoline for the tenders. Others went shopping and sorting out the notarization of the sales contract. Regis Sr. and Fang joined the crew, so the initial crew of 6 for the first leg is now complete.

Then it was time to familiarize ourselves with the boat’s inventory and installations. The day ended with a small celebration with some very nice French Champaign.

We still need to run some errands in town before we can set sails, but people here take it very easy and offices and shops close on Friday lunchtime for the weekend and only a few shops are open on Saturday morning. So we’ll have to hang around until Monday. We plan to use the weekend to start learning the boat doing a bit of sailing and we might pay Mo’oera a visit before setting sails to start the long journey, hopefully on Tuesday.
