We used to bring our own chicken when we went there for diving
When posted in Makassar from1998-2001 we sometimes rented dive gear, a speed boat and a dive guide and went on the 2 hour journey using noisy speedboat to spend a weekend on the small island Kapoposang. There used to be life chicken on the speedboat for dinner because there were only a few very basic huts on the island and no shops or other infrastructure. The kids used to play with the chicken, which were kept under the huts, until they noticed that there were less chicken before every meal. This caused our oldest to become a semi – vegetarian at pre-school age, not eating chicken… and fish.
This time Claude organized a three day trip to visit the island and do some diving. We were excited to go back.

A new resort
There is a new resort, with air conditioned rooms, flowing water, and a swimming pool.
The village
The previous resort
We passed the old resort site during our dive trip. A view from the boat indicated that it does not exist anymore. Our dive guide confirmed this, it had closed down years ago. The next day Mavic and I went there on foot. We could not find the old building anymore, but ruins of several generations of resort buildings were all over the place. It has a post-apocalyptic atmosphere, you can easily imagine zombies coming out of the woods any time.
And of course there is a lot of plastic pollution on the beach too.
