Two days in Amsterdam. In the the Netherlands, the country with the biggest bicycle population per capita in the world. Millions of bicycles. During the two days I did not see a single bicycle rider wearing a helmet. Also riders of Mofas (motorized bicycles) and small scooters don’t wear helmets. All motorcycle riders do wear helmets.
Another example of the stupidity of law makers in other countries who have only theoretical or no knowledge about real life and then use assumptions or no-knowledge to come up with stupid regulations that are actually counterproductive.
The introduction of the helmet law for Mofas in Germany virtually killed the vehicle category because people feel ridiculous running around with crash helmets at a maximum speed of 25 km/h.
Forcing bicycle riders to wear helmets is ridiculous. It keeps most people off bicycles. I have not seen a scientific study that indicates that head injuries went down in countries that introduced laws requiring bicycle helmets.
