For the restoration of my BMW and IRResistable I needed to find a solution for the corrosion of metal parts other than buying new parts. Electrolytic zinc plating is not so difficult and an be done at home for small parts. But I have never done it before, so this needed a bit of research.

The Zinc plating of the GND bus bar (top left) is partly damaged, so rather than buying a new one, I decided to try some home electrolytic zinc plating. The Zinc anodes (top right) came from China, as power source (bottom left) serves my power supply with adjustable current. Electrolyte is NaOH or vinegar with 10% concentration. After experimenting a bit it worked fine. One needs to get the current right. If it is too much bubbles form and the zinc layer is not even.

An excellent training video was done by Simon Mandel, check it out on Youtube. Unfortunately it is only in German.
